Acoustics Supplier in China  HEAR WE ARE BETTER

#Acoustic design aids athletes in avoiding occupational diseases

At the Paris Olympics, 17-year-old Huang Yuting and 19-year-old Sheng Lihao won the first gold medal of the Paris Olympics in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team final, transforming the gold medal from the Hangzhou Asian Games into the first gold of the Paris Olympics within 304 days. Through their dedication and hard work, they have made this moment of great achievement possible. Just as the proverb goes, “The sword’s sharp edge comes from the forging, and the plum blossom’s fragrance comes from the severe cold.” This inspiring and powerful moment is the result of Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao’s daily training. However, behind this glory, there are occupational health issues similar to those of office workers. Each shooting athlete trains for five to six hours daily, with the loud gunshots and echoes in the arena inevitably causing some damage to their hearing.

So, when it comes to the acoustic design of shooting venues, what measures should designers take to mitigate the impact of gunshots on the auditory nerve cells?

A test indicates that long-term gun owners’ hearing can only perceive the roar of aircraft and the sound of digging. This type of hearing loss is quite common among military personnel or shooting athletes. Studies show that the average noise generated during shooting competitions is 116 db. The intensity of sound that people find comfortable is around 50-70 db, and as the sound intensity increases, people will feel uncomfortable. If one is exposed to such an environment for a long time, the auditory nerve cells will suffer severe damage. When athletes are shooting, the sound level at the athlete’s ear cannot exceed 105db , the sound from neighboring shots should be below 105 db, the #reverberation time in the audience area should be below 1.0 s, and the# noise reduction level ΔL should not be less than 6 db. To protect the hearing of athletes, we can process the shooting environment, reduce the noise pressure, lower the #reverberation time, and improve the #sound absorption capacity of the venue.
