Analysis of Road Noise Barrier Damping and Noise Reduction Materials at the 136th Canton Fair

On October 15, 2024, #the 136th Canton Fair was officially launched. The Canton Fair is currently the longest, largest, and most comprehensive international trade event in China’s history, with the most complete range of goods. It is an important window for China’s foreign trade and an important platform for foreign trade. Recently, the expansion of the “friend circle” of the Canton Fair has injected surging momentum into the development of foreign trade. At the same time, we Guangzhou workers are also experiencing the “test” of traffic congestion and the “crisp and pleasant” noise.
Noise pollution is one of the “three major pollutions” in the world. With the continuous development of urban road construction and rail transit, residents on both sides of the transportation route are exposed to traffic noise for a long time, which not only affects people’s learning and life, but also endangers their physical health. As a common noise reduction facility, sound barriers rely on internal# sound absorbing or #insulating materials to absorb or isolate most high-frequency noise. But for traffic noise mainly in the mid low frequency range, the noise reduction performance is low.
#Damping materials can convert the mechanical energy transmitted by sound waves into thermal energy and dissipate it through the friction of the internal molecular chains of the material. The internal friction of a material is called its own damping, which is mainly generated by the energy loss caused by the friction between molecules or metal grains inside the material during their mutual motion. Most materials can generate material damping during motion, but the damping performance of different materials varies greatly. The larger the loss factor of the material, the wider the damping temperature range (temperature range with a loss factor greater than 0.3), and the better the damping performance.

In order to improve the absorption and barrier ability of the sound barrier to low-frequency noise, some researchers have studied and prepared waterborne polyurethane/waterborne polyacrylate composite lotion (WPUA) with excellent damping performance (maximum loss factor 0.97, damping temperature range 150 ℃), and prepared water-borne damping coating with it as the base material, which has reduced the sound absorption coefficient of the coating by 0.2~0.3, and increased the sound insulation by 2~10 dB, thus effectively improving the #noise reduction effect of the materials on low-frequency noise.


#Sound barriers are an effective noise reduction measure widely used in urban transportation both domestically and internationally. It can not only effectively reduce road traffic noise and improve the urban acoustic environment, but also beautify the urban landscape and enhance the quality of life for residents.
